In a statement, de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan said the government was studying the mechanisms required for Parliament sittings to go hybrid amid the pandemic.
He said a detailed study was being conducted before a complete working paper on the matter is presented to the Cabinet for its approval.
“This measure is being taken to ensure that Parliament can still function even as the country faces the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Today, a meeting was held virtually between me and the speakers and deputy speakers of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara to discuss preparations toward Parliament reconvening in a hybrid manner,” Takiyuddin said.
He added that the discussion covered infrastructural, technical, legal and financial aspects.
There have been repeated calls for Parliament to reconvene amid the pandemic and the Emergency, which is due to end only on Aug 1.
While the King said in February that Parliament can be allowed to reconvene even during the Emergency, no proceedings have been called as yet, with Takiyuddin claiming a major concern was the health of MPs.
It is believed that all MPs have already gotten their Covid-19 jabs.
