Rosmah’s bid to disqualify Sri Ram postponed, to be heard in open court

It was earlier scheduled to be heard online this Thursday but it has now been deferred to June 17.

Rosmah Mansor is also seeking an acquittal on all charges should the court declare that the previous hearing was a mistrial.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The High Court has deferred hearing Rosmah Mansor’s applications to disqualify Gopal Sri Ram from prosecuting her corruption case and to declare her trial a nullity.

Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan will now hear submissions of both parties in open court on June 17.

The hearing was scheduled to be heard online on Thursday at 11.30am.

The decision was conveyed to the parties by senior High Court registrar Nur Azizah Jaafar today.

FMT understands that another reason for the postponement is the lockdown from today until June 14.

Deputy public prosecutor Akram Mohd Gharib said the June 15 and 16 dates fixed to hear Rosmah’s defence had also been vacated.

Rosmah claims that Sri Ram’s appointment was defective as his letter of appointment was only signed by Attorney-General Idrus Harun on July 8, last year, while her trial was already ongoing.

Rosmah, who has been ordered to enter her defence on corruption charges linked to a Sarawak schools’ solar energy project, filed her applications on May 5.

She is also seeking an acquittal on all charges should the court declare that the previous hearing was a mistrial.

Rosmah, 69, is accused of soliciting RM187.5 million from former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin through her then aide Rizal Mansor as an inducement to help the company secure the project through direct negotiations with the education ministry.

She is also accused of two counts of receiving bribes amounting to RM6.5 million from Saidi between 2016 and 2017.

The defence case is likely to be heard on June 22 and 23, and July 12 and 15.
