“The consent order was to have been recorded before the special commissioner of income tax on May 27 but was rescheduled to Aug 4 following the movement control order,” Nizar’s lawyer Wee Yeong Kang said when contacted by Bernama after case management on Nizar’s appeal.
Nizar’s appeal was heard before deputy registrar of the Court of Appeal, Mariam Hasanah Othman. The proceeding was also attended by counsel Muhammad Nabil Abdul Halim, who was acting on behalf of LHDN.
In July 2019, the LHDN filed the writ of summons against Nizar, claiming that he owed RM13,159,821.94 in taxes from 2011 to 2017.
Last August, Nizar filed an appeal against the Shah Alam High Court’s decision to allow LHDN’s application to seek a summary judgment against him.
Last July, the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s Justice Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim entered a summary judgment against Nizar’s brother Nazifuddin for allegedly owing RM37.6 million in taxes between 2011 and 2017.
Najib, meanwhile, has been ordered to pay RM1.69 billion in additional tax arrears for 2011 to 2017 in a separate summary judgement.
Both Najib and Nazifuddin have filed appeals to the Court of Appeal against the summary judgments.
Last month, LHDN filed a bankruptcy notice against Najib for failing to pay the RM1.69 billion.
