Perak mufti Harussani dies of Covid-19 at 82

Harussani Zakaria was reported to have tested positive before Hari Raya.

Harussani Zakaria was appointed Perak mufti in 1985.
PETALING JAYA:
Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria died today at the age of 82.

This was confirmed by the Perak Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPk) in a Facebook post today.

Previously, Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad was reported to have said that Harussani tested positive for Covid-19 before Hari Raya.

Harusanni was later admitted to the intensive care unit at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh.

On May 24, his son, Ahmad Wafi Harussani said that his father was still being treated in the ICU and his mother, Ainon Abdul Ghani had been allowed to leave the hospital, according to a Sinar Harian report.

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob has confirmed that Harussani’s death was due to Covid-19.

Harusanni was appointed Perak mufti in 1985 and held several positions at both state and federal levels.

Aside from being the chairman of the Perak shariah committee, he was also the chairman of the censorship of Islamic publications committee, Al Quran text board deputy chairman and a member of the National Fatwa Council.

Meanwhile, Perak deputy mufti Zamri Hashim said Harussani will be buried at the Kampung Melayu Sungai Rapat cemetery in Ipoh.
