KUALA LUMPUR:
A factory worker was fined RM5,000 in default one month’s jail by the magistrate’s court here yesterday for molesting his younger sister.

Magistrate Fardiana Haryanti Ahmad Razali meted out the punishment against the 26-year-old accused after he pleaded guilty to using criminal force to molest his 24-year-old sister at a house in Sungai Besi at 6.30pm on May 4.

He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carried a 10-year prison sentence, or fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments.

In mitigation, the accused, who was represented by lawyer Muhammad Amin Abdullah, told the court he was the sole breadwinner for the family and had no previous criminal records.

Deputy public prosecutor Jess Lyn, meanwhile, urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence.
