PETALING JAYA:
The Kuching High Court has granted leave to Undi Sarawak to proceed with its application for a judicial review on lowering the voting age from 21 to 18.

The decision was made after a hearing today for the group’s judicial review filed against the prime minister, government and Election Commission.

In a statement, Undi Sarawak said it was important for young Sarawakians to exercise their rights as first-time voters under the Undi18 Act.

It said the implementation of the Act was especially pertinent for up to 135,000 Sarawakians aged 18 to 20, due to the upcoming state elections, which will be held once the emergency is lifted.

“Hence, we continue to seek a court order to compel the government to enforce Section 3(a) of the Constitution (Amendment) Act 2019 on or before July 2021.”
