Rama of ’90s show Jangan Ketawa dies, aged 57

The actor-comedian had a history of heart complications.

Actor Ramasundran Rengan, who rose to fame for his role in local television comedy Jangan Ketawa, has died, aged 57.

Better known as Rama to his fans, he died at Hospital Kuala Lumpur between 2am to 2.30am today.

According to Persatuan Seniman Malaysia, Ramasundran was admitted to the hospital’s emergency department shortly past midnight with swollen feet.

“An hour later, the doctor confirmed that Ramasundran had passed,” it said in a Facebook post, adding that he had a history of heart complications.

He leaves his wife, Kamala, and three children.

Ramasundran, who was part of the entertainment industry for 36 years, acted in over 500 dramas and directed some 300.

Speaking fluent Mandarin and Hokkien, he had also delved into acting in Chinese movies and dramas in the later years of his career while heading his own production company in Kuala Lumpur.
