Pakatan calls for mass screening, aid package for KL folk

MPs in the capital say B40 families should get food vouchers, and rent and assessment should be waived.

Pakatan Harapan’s nine MPs in the federal territory have called for a relief aid package for residents of the capital.
PETALING JAYA:  Pakatan Harapan’s MPs in Kuala Lumpur are demanding a mass Covid-19 screening for residents of the capital, and a relief package that includes waiver of rent at public housing flats and food vouchers for low-income families.

The nine opposition MPs in the federal territory said the relief package is needed for KL residents to cope with the new rules imposed with movement restrictions.

“We believe that with such aid, the financial burden borne by those in Kuala Lumpur will be reduced,” they said in a statement.

The MPs demanded that RM500 in food vouchers be given to every B40 household registered under the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional, Baitulmal, or e-Kasih initiative.

RTK-Antigen screening should be provided free for residents of the capital, and shuttle services provided to vaccination centres.

Rent at People’s Housing Projects flats should be waived for 12 months, and assessment rates waived for six months from July for flat dwellers and those in low-cost homes.

The same should apply for business operators renting premises owned by City Hall.

They also called for the existing free trade area programme to be extended until year end.

The nine MPs are, Tan Kok Wai (Cheras), Fong Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang), Teresa Kok (Seputeh), Tan Yee Kew (Wangsa Maju), Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa), P Prabakaran (Batu), Lim Lip Eng (Kepong) and Hannah Yeoh (Segambut).
