KOTA BHARU:
A total of 10,000 people who registered for phase two of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in Kelantan did not show up for their vaccination appointments as of yesterday – many offering the flimsiest of excuses.

Some said they had a fever, some wanted to get married and so asked for a different date, said state local government, housing and health committee chairman Dr Izani Husin.

“Finally, the health department ends up being inconvenienced because they don’t show up even after everything is arranged,” he told reporters at Kompleks Kota Darulnaim here today.

Izani said this was a disappointment to many parties, including the Kelantan state health department, because they had put so much effort into arranging the vaccination process.

He added that the actions of these people also led to the wastage of vaccine doses.

Izani, therefore, urged those who have registered to cooperate with the health department by showing up for their vaccination appointment.

He also urged Kelantanese who have not registered to do so.

“I hope more Kelantanese will register because Kelantan will receive a large quantity of Sinovac vaccines this June.

“I hope the people will make the most of this opportunity and not reject vaccinations,” he said.

On the movement control order SOPs in Kelantan, Izani said it had been at a low level until a sharp increase in daily Covid-19 cases that hit three-digits recently.

“We all failed to comply with the SOP. Residents, traders, at mosques, actually everyone just didn’t care. That’s what happens when we all don’t listen to advice from medical experts and religious leaders about this matter.”

Izani also urged celebrities, Instafamous and other high-profile individuals as well as heads of departments, community and religious leaders to be good role models to the public.

“Comply with SOPs, do not be proud about violating the SOPs, support the government’s efforts and become a shining example to society,” he said a Facebook post today.
