KOTA KINABALU:
A company manager was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly making fraudulent claims totalling RM170,000 from a government agency using forged documents.

A source said the man, in his 30s, was arrested when he came to give his statement at the Sabah MACC office here at 11am today.

The suspect is believed to have produced the forged documents together with the RM170,000 claim for a project that was supposed to have been carried out in 2018.

The claim was made at the Kudat branch of the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry for a community project.

The source said the project, which came under the National Product Price Council, was to have been carried out in the Matunggong and Sikuati areas in the northern Sabah district.

Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest when contacted.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 471 of the Penal Code for using forged documents.

“The man has been released on MACC bail and is expected to be charged at the sessions court here on May 25,” Karunanithy said.
