In a statement, Serdang police chief Mohd Rosdi Daud said a police report was lodged after a media outlet published a news report on the event.
It is alleged that higher education director-general Husaini Omar attended the event at Universiti Putra Malaysia on Thursday, a day after the movement control order (MCO) came into effect.
Under the MCO, public and private events are not allowed.
Rosdi said preliminary investigations found that the programme involved undergraduates and the university’s management.
“It is understood the programme was organised in conjunction with presenting of aid to undergraduates.
“Based on the pictures uploaded (on social media), guests and undergraduates can be seen at the programme.”
Rosdi said those found guilty of breaching the Covid-19 rules can be compounded. Attendees will face a RM2,000 fine while the organiser faces a RM10,000 fine.
He added the investigation papers will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor soon.
