
One of the country’s two sports schools, the facility will be under EMCO from May 8 to 21 after the health ministry recorded 96 positive cases following 212 tests.
In a statement today, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the health ministry has confirmed a rise in cases in the school over the past week with a high infectivity rate.
Meanwhile, 23 localities in Raub, Pahang, will be placed under EMCO during the same period due to a surge in cases in the areas.
Sixteen of the localities are in Sungai Ruan while the other seven are in Sempalit. Ismail said the health ministry detected an “obvious increase” in the 23 localities, where 65 positive cases were recorded over the past two weeks.
He also said the EMCO in Taman Seri Desa in Temerloh, Pahang, will conclude tomorrow after the health ministry recorded a decrease in cases in the area, with the last recorded case on April 30.
Meanwhile, Ismail said police arrested 411 people yesterday over MCO-related offences.
Of that number, 408 were issued compound fines while the other three were remanded.
Among the offences were failing to provide materials for contact tracing or registration (168) and not wearing face masks (94).
A total of 4,205 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 29,971 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories and banks, among other places.
Ismail also said police arrested 14 illegal immigrants and seized three vehicles under the ongoing Op Benteng.
He added that 196,699 passengers had arrived through KLIA between July 24 last year and May 5 this year from various countries.
A total of 1,828 people tested positive for Covid-19 and were sent to hospital for treatment, 186,455 were allowed to return home and 8,416 are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
