Many Malaysians itching to travel, survey finds

They are holding out hope that they can travel again despite the surge in Covid-19 cases.

A survey has found that Malaysia has the highest percentage of citizens with travel plans, surpassing those in India and the Philippines.
PETALING JAYA:
Nearly half of Malaysians are making short-term plans to travel in the next few months as they hold out hope for short vacations despite the spike in Covid-19 cases, according to a survey.

The survey, conducted by comparison site Finder.com, found that 44% of Malaysians have short-term travel plans, a 5% increase compared to 39% last month.

It said 31% were hoping to travel within the country between now and the end of July, while those with international travel plans rose from 15% to 18%.

Finder editor-at-large Angus Kidman said this was the second month in a row that Malaysia had been found to have the highest percentage of people with travel plans, surpassing those in India and the Philippines.

“In May alone, nearly a quarter of Malaysians are planning to travel in the country. In June and July, the percentage of people with domestic travel plans is set to taper off to just 8% and then 6%, suggesting Malaysians were centring their travel plans around the Aidilfitri celebrations.

“With government restrictions recently changing, your location will determine if you can actually make that trip. Our data suggests that many Malaysians are holding out hope they will be able to travel,” he said.

This survey was part of Finder’s ongoing Travel Index, gathering responses from 88,966 people in 19 different countries.
