Kamarul Zaman Yusoff also claims to be a victim of cyberbullying following statements against him on social media.

UUM lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff claims that statements by DAP politicians Lim Guan Eng and Steven Sim had caused him to suffer from anxiety.
PETALING JAYA:
A political analyst is suing DAP’s Lim Guan Eng and Steven Sim for defamation over the kerfuffle sparked by Sim’s decision to help a food delivery rider by gifting him a motorcycle recently.

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) senior lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff — who is now claiming to be a victim of cyberbullying — is also suing a former aide to a federal minister, Noor Liyana Ahmad Marzuki, for defamation.

Kamarul said he has started legal proceedings against the trio over allegations that he had made several accusations against Sim.

This included alleging that Sim was spreading Christianity; had offered a RM2,000 reward to identify the food delivery rider; labelling Sim as a Christian missionary; and causing the rider to be harassed.

He said Lim had, among others, accused him of bringing shame to his academic standing by writing in PAS’ newsletter Harakah questioning Sim’s motive to help a Malay Muslim in his own parliamentary constituency.

As for Noor Liyana, Kamarul said she had defamed him on social media by saying he “had brought shame to the entire academia”, among others.

“Following these defamatory statements, I had to endure taunts and was publicly scorned. And this led me to suffer from anxiety and it was a huge embarrassment,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also threatened legal action against those who had issued similar statements.

Last month, Sim, the Bukit Mertajam MP said he had gifted the delivery rider, identified only as Mohamad, a new motorcycle after learning he was making his rounds on a borrowed bicycle.

The Vibes had reported that Kamarul offered a sum of RM2,000 to anyone who provided him with information about the food delivery rider.

The portal also reported that Sim, who eventually revealed the identity of the individual he helped, would take legal action against Kamarul.
