Media can be pressure group on Putrajaya, says Bersatu No 2

Ahmad Faizal Azumu says everyone must buck up as the pandemic has had worse effects than past financial crises.

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the Covid-19 pandemic is worse than past financial crises.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The mass media can be a pressure group to push the government into working harder to provide the best service to the people, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said today.

He said everyone, including politicians and the media, should buck up and do better as the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic were worse than the financial crises of 1998 and 2008.

“The 1998 and 2008 crises had never forced schools to close. The effects and impact of Covid-19 are much more devastating. We are dealing with a different kind of crisis,” he said at a “buka puasa” event with media members today.

He said the government was working hard to resolve issues related to the pandemic and he urged all parties, including the media to give the government their full support.

“It is not a matter of (whether the government is) able or not but more importantly is when will all this be over?” he said, according to Bernama.

Ahmad Faizal, who is Tambun MP, said: “Each and every one of us, whether politicians, or the media, needs to buck up and do better. If you hold a position in the government, we have to use it to help the people … help the prime minister and work as a team. That is also the hope of the people out there.”
