In a tweet, JKJAV said those interested may do so at the http://vaksincovid.gov.my website.
As the AstraZeneca vaccine would only be administered on a voluntary “first come, first served” basis at a special vaccination centre, volunteers have been advised to book their slots quickly.
“Once we have reached the limit, registration will be closed.
“If you have previously registered for the vaccine, you will still be in the queue, based on the phases outlined earlier,” the committee said.
Recently, science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the AstraZeneca vaccine, for now, will only be for residents in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, aged 18 and above.
The decision was taken in view of public concern regarding the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine under Phase 2 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
This followed cases of thrombosis (blood clots) among recipients in European countries, which had led some of these countries to put on hold administration of the vaccine.
However, it has been explained that the risk of experiencing blood clots from AstraZeneca is very low at four cases for every one million doses.
“That is a 0.0004% chance (of blood clots),” Khairy said.
After the announcement, it was reported that there had been an enthusiastic response from people on social media eager to register for the AstraZeneca vaccine.
