Wheels come to halt at Kajang funfair

MPKJ orders operator of the funfair to close, and issues show-cause letter regarding SOP violations.

MPKJ says it would be conducting a probe on the operator to verify the complaints from a viral video.
PETALING JAYA:
The Kajang municipal council (MPKJ) has ordered a funfair in Cheras Selatan, Balakong, Selangor to shut down immediately for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

MPKJ public relations officer Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman said the operator has to respond to a show-cause letter regarding the SOP violation.

“The council will submit the notice this afternoon regarding the order to stop operations,” he told FMT.

Kamarul added MPKJ would conduct a probe on the operator to verify the complaints from a video which went viral, showing many breaches of SOPs at the funfair.

“The council is serious about the violations of the SOP. More information will be released once the investigation is complete,” he said.

In a 13-minute video clip that went viral on social media, a man questioned why local authorities have allowed the funfair to operate as infection rates are still high.

“Where are the authorities? Obviously, those in line are not social distancing.”

The funfair is located next to a shopping mall in Cheras Selatan and was said to have started operations on April 12 and was scheduled to close on May 24.

Meanwhile, Balakong state assemblyman Wong Siew Ki told FMT he had sent complaints from residents on the case to MPKJ.

He advised local residents to channel official complaints to their respective local authorities so that immediate action would be taken.

Wong said hoping for the issue to “go viral” would see residents waiting much longer for any action to be taken.
