Armada exco member Harris Idaham Rashid said the recently trending hashtag was simply a tactic organised by a handful of social media “influencers”.
He said the Merdeka Center survey had found that 79% of people between the ages of 21 and 30 were satisfied with Muhyiddin’s performance as the head of government.
“This fact also strengthens Armada’s stance in fully supporting the inclusion of voters aged 18 as registered voters because we are confident that this group would support Perikatan Nasional in the next general election,” he said in a statement.
Harris added that the 70% approval rating for the government’s response to the pandemic was proof that the Bersatu-led PN administration’s economic stimulus packages had fulfilled the needs of the targeted groups.
Polling firm Merdeka Center previously found that Muhyiddin’s approval rating remained stable at 67%, despite concerns over the economy and the pandemic. This was a slight increase compared with his 63% rating at the end of January this year.
The survey, conducted from March 31 to April 12, involved 2,111 voters in the peninsula, with 64% of respondents being Malays, 28% Chinese and 8% Indians.
It found that Muhyiddin’s support among Malay voters remained strong at 83%, although the backing from Chinese and Indians was lower at 30% and 66% respectively.
