Man charged with hurting deliveryman in quarrel over ‘long wait’

The Foodpanda rider was said to have been struck on the head after scolding the accused's wife.

A man was charged at the magistrates’ court here today with striking a Foodpanda rider on his head with an object during an argument at an apartment block on Tuesday.

Muhammad Aslam Hashim, 31, claimed trial to a charge of causing hurt to delivery rider Koay Eng Tat, 40, at Desa Permai Indah in Sungai Dua.

Aslam, who is unemployed, is accused under Section 324 of the Penal Code of voluntarily causing harm with an instrument. The charge carries a 10-year maximum jail term and whipping or both upon conviction.

Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap set bail of RM4,000 in one surety and fixed May 25 for mention to allow Aslam to find a lawyer.

A report had said a delivery rider was struck on the head with a hammer during an argument.

The delivery rider was said to have lost his cool after having to wait for 10 minutes to hand over a parcel.

He was alleged to have scolded a woman, whose husband later confronted him at the lobby of the apartment building.
