Ex-CJ appointed chairman of arbitration centre advisory council

Attorney-General Idrus Harun also among several others named as members of Asian International Arbitration Centre panel.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Former chief justice Arifin Zakaria has been appointed chairman of the Asian International Arbitration Centre’s (AIAC) Advisory Council for a two-year term, effective April 1.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Takiyuddin Hassan said Attorney-General Idrus Harun, Sulong Matjeraie, Prasad Sandosham Abraham, Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan, Nitin Nadkarni and Wafi Nazrin Abdul Hamid were also appointed members of the council.

Other appointed members were Tan Swee Im, Doug Jones AO (Australia), Hassan Arab (United Arab Emirates), Monica Feria Tinta and Khawar Qureshi (UK), and Vyapak Desai (India).

Takiyuddin said the members will help determine strategies and action plans to strengthen the AIAC, increase its activities and assist its director, Suriyadi Halim Omar.

He said their appointment was made based on their expertise and experience in the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) industry in their respective countries.

He also expressed hope that with their appointments, AIAC will continue to excel as a world-leading ADR institution and arbitration centre.
