PETALING JAYA:
A businessman who allegedly beat his two personal bodyguards for fasting is expected to face seven charges in the magistrates’ court in Klang and Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

The charges relate to causing hurt, criminal intimidation and insulting Islam. The 44-year-old will face five charges in Klang and two more in Kuala Lumpur.

His aide, who has been accused of two offences, will also be in the dock in the Klang court.

The bodyguards have alleged they were beaten on their backs with a cane by their boss and another worker.

Police said the employer also took a pistol from one of the victims and pointed it at them while threatening and insulting them.

The incident happened last week at the employer’s home in Bukit Tinggi, Klang, hours after the two workers had been scolded for fasting at an upscale condominium in Kuala Lumpur.

Investigations led police to the discovery of illegal gambling activities and a moneylending syndicate allegedly run by the employer.

Police seized 100kg of gold bars and 12,500 pieces of US$100 notes, with an estimated total value of RM28.25 million.

A probe is underway into offences under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act and the Moneylenders Act.
