Another tahfiz school in Machang, Kelantan will go under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting tomorrow, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

In a statement today, he said the EMCO at Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal Qiraat (MTAQ) in Pulai Chondong, Machang, Kelantan is set to last until May 4.

The health ministry reported a drastic increase in Covid-19 cases at the school, with 97 cases so far.

Meanwhile, Ismail also announced that the EMCO affecting two localities in Sarawak, namely Kampung Batu Gong in Siburan, Setian as well as the Sri Aman prison and staff quarters, will end today and tomorrow, respectively.

He said the decision was made following a downward trend in active cases in the two localities.

On the arrests yesterday, Ismail said 110 people were arrested for various offences, of which 108 were issued compounds while two were remanded.

Among the offences were not wearing a face mask (34), failure to record personal details/check-in at premises (32), flouting physical distancing rules (17), interstate or inter-district travel without permission (1), and others (26).

Authorities also seized 11 vehicles and arrested 23 illegal migrants yesterday as part of border surveillance operations.
