Stop semantics, work on reducing Covid-19 cases, Kit Siang tells Adham

He ticks off the health minister for saying the fourth wave will only start after the daily figures hit zero, with a sharp rise the following day.

Lim Kit Siang says Adham Baba’s series of Covid-19 related statements has made him look incompetent.
PETALING JAYA:
Health minister Dr Adham Baba should focus on efforts to bring down the number of Covid-19 cases to double-digit figures instead of playing a game of semantics by saying it has to hit zero cases first before it can be called a fourth wave, says Lim Kit Siang.

The veteran DAP leader said going by the minister’s logic, Malaysia will not face a fourth wave in a long time because the current “super long” third wave had not seen the number dropping below four digits for months.

“Going by Adham’s definition of the fourth wave that it can only occur when the country has succeeded in reaching zero cases under the third wave, there is never going to be a fourth wave in Malaysia.

“Can he state how many days in the past year saw the daily new Covid-19 cases in the country reach zero? Adham should stop his game of semantics because his stance will only drive fear into Malaysians as we are a long way from bringing the third wave under control,” he said in a statement today.

Adham said yesterday that Malaysia had not entered the fourth wave as it has yet to succeed in recording zero cases under the present third wave.

He said the fourth wave of Covid-19 cases will only happen if there are no local cases under the current third wave before the number increases sharply the next day.

Lim said a strong case could be made that Malaysia could have been spared the second and third waves of the Covid-19 pandemic if the Sheraton Move conspiracy had not toppled the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government at the end of February 2020.

He said Malaysia appeared to be the only country in the world that had operated without an effective and credible health minister, whose series of gaffes related to Covid-19 statements had made him look incompetent.

Lim said if the minister continued to make statements that defied logic and did not comfort Malaysians at a time when the number of Covid-19 cases had been in the thousands for months, he should do the honourable thing and resign immediately.

Yesterday, the health ministry had reported 2,331 Covid-19 cases. This was the third day in a row that the daily increase in new Covid-19 cases had risen above the 2,000 mark after dipping below that for a few weeks.
