MCMC acts to remove another Raya-themed gambling ad

It has asked media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to take down 61 uploads of the two ads in question.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said there have been 61 content uploads of the two ads.
PETALING JAYA:
Another Hari Raya-themed gambling advertisement has cropped up and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has asked media platforms to remove it.

Today, it received reports of another viral video advertisement encouraging Muslims to gamble to raise more money for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

This follows a separate police investigation into another Hari Raya-themed online gambling advertisement which went viral a few days ago.

In a statement, MCMC said it had asked Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to take down the videos as they were not in line with Malaysian norms and traditions.

MCMC said it had asked the platforms to take down 61 content uploads of these two clips as they are against their service terms and community guidelines.

“They have taken down 13% so far while the rest are being reviewed and studied by the platform providers.”

According to MCMC, there has been a drastic increase in the number of these contents being reported on media platforms today as social media users were found to be re-uploading the videos.

It urged them to be more responsible by reporting the videos straight to the authorities for further action instead of sharing the content to an even wider audience.

“Efforts to get rid of this video content also depends on Malaysians in general,” it said.

Deputy inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said a report had been made by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the origin of the video.

He said the contents of the video were found to be clearly in violation of the law and could cause a public nuisance.

Bukit Aman has arrested eight people over their involvement in one of the videos. The five men and three women were actors, artist agents, cameramen and the directors of the video.
