PETALING JAYA:
Deputy works minister Eddin Syazlee Shith, who was lampooned by social media users after a video of him falling asleep during an event went viral, has apologised.

In the minute-long clip, Eddin, who was the guest of honour at a graduation ceremony for Sekolah Menengah Agama Sains Kuala Pilah students, could be seen slumped in his chair as he was called to the stage.

Those seated next to him are seen trying to wake him up for more than 30 seconds before he gets up.

On Twitter, many poked fun at the Kuala Pilah MP for falling asleep, while others said he should resign.

“Embarrassing. Please resign,” said Twitter user Lady Sedih.

“He must be hard at work for Malaysians, until he’s passed out like a potato in that chair,” said another user, J Hon.

Bernama has since reported that Eddin, who in 2019 passed out in the Dewan Rakyat from exhaustion, has apologised for falling asleep.

According to the national news agency’s report, Eddin’s special officer said he was not feeling very well but had insisted on attending the event.

He had also taken some medication prior to the event.
