EMCO in parts of Tuaran and Sandakan

Fourteen illegal foreign workers held, 80 boats turned back for trying to enter the country illegally.

The lockdown will end on April 23.

Certain parts of Tuaran and Sandakan in Sabah are now under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO), the authorities have said.

The affected areas are Kampung Gayang in Tuaran while in Sandakan, Institut Latihan Perindustrian, Taman Permata and Taman Seri Labuk have been declared EMCO areas.

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the lockdown will end on April 23.

In Kampung Gayang, 38 swab tests were carried out, with five people testing positive.

In Sandakan, Ismail said 88 swabs were carried out at the Institut Latihan Perindustrian with seven people testing positive.

In Taman Permata, out of nine swabs taken, five tested positive. Six tests have been carried out in Taman Seri Labuk so far.

“The health ministry has confirmed a sudden increase in cases in these localities,” Ismail added.

He also said 94 individuals were detained yesterday for breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), with one being placed under remand.

The offences include premises operating beyond permitted hours (44), crossing state borders without permission (17), not wearing a face mask (15), no physical distancing (9), failing to record data on MySejahtera application (6) and taking part in activities at entertainment outlets (3).

Enforcement teams also detained 14 illegal foreign workers and seized seven vehicles. Almost 80 boats were also repelled for trying to enter the country illegally.

On quarantine, 1,096 people entered the country’s borders yesterday and were quarantined, bringing the total figures to 168,499 since July 24. Of the number, 1,315 were sent to hospitals.

Ismail also announced the end of the EMCO at immigration detention camps at Kompleks KDN Setia Tropika and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, both in Johor Bahru.

The detention camp at Kompleks KDN Setia Tropika had reported 61 infections while Bangunan Sultan Iskandar reported 51 cases.
