Chest-thumping begins in fight for Kuala Pilah

The Kuala Pilah parliamentary constituency is set to see a close fight in the 15th general election (GE15) with deputy works minister Eddin Syazlee Shith expressing his desire to defend the seat he won at the last elections.

The Negeri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman said he was ready to face candidates from other parties, even if it involved a three-cornered fight, which now looks very likely.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, who is also Negeri Sembilan Umno leader, has already expressed confidence in wresting the Kuala Pilah parliamentary seat as the party only lost by 200 votes in GE14.

Then, Eddin Syazlee, representing PPBM under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) banner, secured 18,045 votes to beat Hasan Malek who got 17,845 votes. PPBM has since left PH but in GE15, the coalition will almost certainly be in the fray again with a different candidate.

“I will defend the Kuala Pilah parliamentary constituency. Yes, today there was a discussion between PPBM and PAS on the distribution of seats to face GE15.

“The recommendations have been given for Negeri Sembilan. We will concur with what is to be decided so long as both parties don’t clash,” he told reporters after attending a district-level Malaysia Prihatin Programme here, today.
