Both are MPs who are said to be against the decision by Umno, and endorsed by Zahid, to cut ties with PPBM.
Speaking at an event in Putrajaya, Annuar, who is the federal territories minister, said it was not difficult to recognise the voices in the recording.
“I listened to it (the audio recording) 10 times last night. I think I can identify the voices and am 100% sure it is genuine.”
Shahidan, meanwhile, said he will lodge a police report on the recording because his name was mentioned.
The Perlis Umno chief also urged others to lodge police reports so authorities could probe and decide on the authenticity of the phone conversation.
Both Zahid and Anwar have denied speaking to each other. The conversation was alleged to have taken place after the recent Umno general assembly, giving the impression that they were working together.
“In the audio, allegedly between my president and someone from PKR, my name was mentioned. I was said to have been booed during my speech (at the general assembly),” Shahidan told FMT.
“Zahid has said the audio is fake but my name was mentioned. It is not wrong for some people to boo me, maybe because I am not a good speaker, but I want to know if the booing against me was planned.”
The Arau MP said he wanted his and Zahid’s name to be cleared.
Shahidan also touched on a letter, allegedly sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by Zahid and his predecessor, Najib Razak, stating that they and several Umno MPs were retracting their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
“The letter was said to be fake but no police report was made,” he said.
“A police report should be made this time as the president has said the audio recording is fake.”
