Instead, Kamaruzaman said, what Hadi meant was that PAS was against any attempt to divide the ummah.
He also said Hadi’s statement was in line with the party’s stance of strengthening MN with Umno and upholding its Perikatan Nasional (PN) pact with PPBM, adding that PAS would continue working with both parties.
“MN was founded based on the pact’s charter, meaning we have clear goals and objectives. The basis of MN is unity.
“Any matter that could lead to division is a violation of the charter,” he told FMT.
This morning, Hadi had urged all Muslim groups to join PN with PAS and PPBM. In a press conference later, he also called for PPBM to be included as a member of MN.
Previously, PPBM secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin and his PAS counterpart, Takiyuddin Hassan announced that the two parties would join forces in the next general election (GE15).
Commenting on Umno’s decision to cut ties with PPBM in GE15, Kamaruzaman said PAS was working to reconcile the two parties.
“As long as the world has not ended, anything is possible. PAS will continue to strengthen its efforts in uniting the ummah and most importantly, bring Umno and PPBM together,” he said.
