Science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this is because of the low number of registrations for Covid-19 vaccinations.
He said the new groups will be announced on Monday.
Phase 1, which is ongoing, involves frontliners, and Phase 2 will include senior citizens and those in vulnerable groups.
Khairy maintained that the elderly and high-risk groups such as the disabled and patients suffering from chronic diseases will still be the main target groups in Phase 2.
He said the additional list will be announced after getting approval from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee.
He was speaking at a press conference after meeting members of the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force Selangor.
Khairy said Selangor remained the state with the highest vaccination rate and registration.
“Vaccine distribution under Phase 1 (in Selangor) is almost complete,” he said, adding that Phases 2 and 3 of the state’s vaccination programme was expected to be completed by November.
He said Selangor was being given special attention in the national immunisation programme because it was an industrial state with great economic contribution to the country.
“There are also high Covid-19 infectivity rates at certain industrial areas, especially in factories with many workers. We would need the companies’ cooperation to carry out vaccinations at the factories or staff quarters.
“They would not need to go to the PPVs (vaccine distribution centres) and be around many people,” he said.
Khairy said discussions were also being held to increase registration for vaccination through face-to-face programmes involving non-governmental organisations and the community.
Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said Phase 1 of Selangor’s vaccination programme was 83% complete.
“There are about 4,000 first-dose recipients left,” he said.
