GEORGE TOWN:
Penang assemblyman Faiz Fadzil today denied allegations that he sexually harassed a woman in Petaling Jaya and is considering suing the complainant to clear his name.

He said he went to the Subang Jaya police station on March 18 to give his statement over the police report lodged by the woman. He vowed to cooperate with the police in the investigations.

“I wholly deny such allegations. I can’t give you my defence as the investigation is still ongoing. In the meantime, I’m talking to my team of lawyers to take appropriate legal action to clear my name,” he said when contacted.

Faiz, a lawyer by profession, is Amanah’s assemblyman for the Permatang Pasir seat in Seberang Perai.

Earlier today, the police report lodged by a 30-year-old shopkeeper from Terengganu accusing a Penang assemblyman of “sexual disturbance” when he took her out for dinner at a mall in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, two weeks ago, made its rounds on social media.

According to Subang Jaya police chief Khalid Othman, the assemblyman is alleged to have tried to caress her hands and to have held her by the shoulder.

The case has been classified under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
