KUALA LUMPUR:
Three illegal immigrants climbed over a zinc wall before falling into a drain filled with faeces to evade arrest during an operation conducted by the immigration authorities early today.

They were among 328 foreigners arrested in the four-hour operation starting at 10pm at a construction site at Jalan Imbi here.

Deputy home minister Ismail Mohamed Said, who took part in the operation, said those arrested, aged 22 to 63, comprised 204 Bangladeshis, 108 Indonesians, nine Myanmar nationals, four Indian nationals and three others.

“I noticed that the living condition here is not ideal. This matter will be referred to the human resources ministry,” he said.

He said stern action would be taken against their employers if the investigation found that they were doing jobs in sectors contrary to those registered in their documents.
