Anwar to meet MACC chief on Monday

Opposition chief says he will air concerns that MACC is being used as a 'political weapon'.

Anwar Ibrahim said he will relay all his concerns to MACC chief Azam Baki about claims of selective prosecution.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will meet Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki on Monday in the wake of the opposition’s accusation that the agency is being used as a political weapon.

“Azam agreed to meet me at 3pm. I will share our views and concerns,” said Anwar after an event in Permatang Pauh, Penang.

MACC has described as “unfounded and baseless” accusations by Pakatan Harapan (PH) that the commission was being used to pressure opposition MPs to get them to support Perikatan Nasional (PN).

PH had made the claim following several arrests and investigations launched against some opposition politicians.

It claimed this was the motive behind recent investigations against MPs such as Lim Guan Eng, Steven Choong, Larry Sng and Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

Choong, Sng and Xavier, the MPs for Tebrau, Julau and Kuala Langat respectively, recently quit PKR to support PN.

These defections were followed by claims from several other PKR MPs that they were approached with offers to defect and support the government.
