
In a statement, he said 289 of them were issued compound fines and 48 were remanded.
He said most of the offences committed were failure to maintain physical distancing (109).
Among the other offences were taking part in activities at entertainment outlets (72), failure to provide materials to record customers’ details (55), crossing states or districts without permission (42), not wearing face mask (41) and others (18).
Meanwhile, 3,260 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 4,662 supermarkets, 6,120 restaurants, 4,003 hawker stalls, 3,234 banks, 2,454 factories, 769 government offices, as well as 5,630 land, water and air transport terminals.
The authorities also detained seven undocumented migrants yesterday as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign. They also confiscated two vehicles.
Regarding the mandatory quarantine, Ismail said 802 people who arrived at the country’s international checkpoints yesterday were placed under quarantine yesterday.
He said since July 24 last year, of the 143,918 people returning to Malaysia, 7,015 people were quarantined, 135,883 were allowed to return home, while 1,020 were admitted to hospital.
There are 80 hotels and nine public training institutes serving as quarantine centres across the country, he said.
Ismail said mandatory tests for foreign workers were continuing, with 2,209 foreign workers tested and eight testing positive for the virus yesterday.
He said the human resources ministry had reported that 615,980 foreigners had gone through Covid-19 screening. This involved 31,921 employers.
Of the total number of foreign workers tested, 9,699 were positive for Covid-19. A total of 1,520 clinics were involved in these tests.
