Brickfields police chief Anuar Omar said the deceased had gone with his 30-year-old friend to an entertainment outlet and was on his way to the car park when the incident happened about 1am.
The victim encountered a group of five men known to him and was attacked by them, he said.
“The motive for the incident is believed to be due to an old feud between the deceased and the suspects. Five men have been identified and we are on the lookout for them,” Anuar said in a statement.
Police did not release the name of the deceased in their statement.
Anuar urged those who had more details on the case to call the Brickfields police at 03 2297 9222 and urged people not to speculate.
The video of the men beating up the victim at the back of the Affin Bank along Jalan Telawi 3 had gone viral on social media. They show two men, with blood streaming from injuries, running helter-skelter to escape a group armed with crash helmets.
They also show the deceased later lying on the pavement while another man tries to revive him.
