Guard held after shot is fired in Api-Api bank

The guard, in his 50s, was believed to have fired a round from his gun by accident.

KOTA KINABALU:
A security guard has been detained by police for firing a round from his shotgun at a bank in the commercial district of Api-Api here today.

It is believed the guard, in his 50s, had accidentally fired the shot in the 7.55am incident. However, the shot only hit the floor and no one was hurt.

City police chief Habibi Majinji said police only received a report from the bank management at 10.45am.

He said a police team, including the forensics unit, was sent to the location soon after.

“We seized the weapon, a long-barrelled shotgun, from the guard.

“We are still investigating how the incident occurred,” he said, adding the guard is being investigated under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960 for firing a shot in a public area.
