I was defamed 13 times, says Ismail in suit against ex-PPBM member

The minister says Anina Saadudin's statements and videos had attacked him in his personal capacity.

Ismail Sabri Yaakob claims that Anina Saadudin had ‘gone overboard’ to ridicule him.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Defence minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has filed a suit against a former Umno member and founding member of PPBM, Anina Saadudin, for defaming him in her Facebook postings.

In the statement of claim filed by Messrs Kesavan, Ismail said Anina had attacked him in his personal capacity 13 times between Feb 5 and March 3.

Ismail, who is also an Umno vice-president, claimed Anina had ridiculed him and gone overboard in posting statements and videos to “damage” his reputation among the public.

“The postings had nothing to do with government policies and the plaintiff’s duty as a minister,” said the statement of claim filed on March 5.

It said Anina’s postings, among others, gave the impression that Ismail was “weak, a coward and feminish”.

Lawyer Ragunath Kesavan said the High Court earlier today granted Ismail an interim ex-parte injunction to order Anina to remove all the postings.

“Judge Mohd Firuz Jaffril allowed the application pending the hearing of an inter-parte on March 25,” he said.

The interim injunction must be complied with until Anina or her lawyers set aside the order.

Ismail also wants an injunction to restrain Anina from posting her statements and videos on other social media platforms.

He is demanding an apology and unspecified amount of damages and other relief deemed fit by the court.

Anina was a Langkawi Umno member who later joined PPBM, which she also left.
