5 new clusters, 3 involving workplaces

Two of the clusters were detected in Johor.

There are three workplace clusters, one community cluster and one cluster linked to a detention centre.
PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has detected five new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said that three of them were workplace clusters, one was a community cluster and another was linked to a detention centre.

Two of the clusters were detected in Johor, and one each in Sabah, Selangor and Melaka.

Clusters that recorded the highest spike in cases today are the Queens Waterfront construction site (70), Sungai Gadut (68) and DTI Machap Umboo (67).

The five new clusters are:

Johor:

  • Teknologi Tenggara – a workplace cluster involving Batu Pahat district. The index case tested positive on March 7. This cluster involves factory workers at Jalan Kluang, Batu Pahat. So far, 146 have been screened with 12 testing positive.
  • Jalan Masyhur Enam – a workplace cluster involving Johor Bahru district. Cases were reported on March 9 after a targeted screening of factory workers at Jalan Masyhur 6, Taman Perindustrian Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram, Johor Bahru. Of the 173 people screened, 52 tested positive.

Selangor:

  • Jalan Kenangan construction site – a workplace cluster involving Klang district. Cases were reported today after a targeted screening of workers at a construction site on Jalan Kenangan, Pekan Meru KU/8, Klang. Some 121 people have been screened so far, with 31 testing positive.

Melaka:

  • DTI Machap Umboo – a detention centre cluster involving Alor Gajah district. Cases were reported on Feb 20 after a screening of migrants before they were sent to their home country. Of the 530 detainees screened, 83 were found to be positive.

Sabah

  • Jambatan Satu Bombalai – a community cluster involving Kalabakan district. The index case tested positive on Feb 27 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. So far, 41 people have been screened, with 15 testing positive.
