GPs to be part of phase 2 and 3 of vaccination programme

Health minister Dr Adham Baba says general practitioners keen on offering their services should register online.

The government says ProtectHealth Corporation will execute the involvement of GPs in the national immunisation programme.
PETALING JAYA:
The government has agreed to rope in general practitioners (GPs) to administer Covid-19 vaccines in phase two and three of the national immunisation programme.

In a live-streamed press conference today, health minister Dr Adham Baba said GPs interested in offering their services should register online through https://protecthealth.com.my/bm.

“We have agreed to involve private GPs to maximise the administration of the vaccine to the people.

“For this purpose, the health ministry has appointed ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd to execute the involvement of GPs in the national immunisation programme,” he said at a joint press conference with science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Adham said ProtectHealth had been incorporated under the health ministry as a non-profit organisation in 2016 and had experience in dealing with GPs under the Peduli Kesihatan B40 scheme.

ProtectHealth will be in charge of registering GPs for the vaccination programme, managing payments, conducting training, producing manuals and monitoring practitioners as they vaccinate the people.

Meanwhile, Khairy said there was no daily dosage target for phase one of the programme, but maintained that Malaysia’s immunisation rates were satisfactory.

He said the target of more than 100,000 vaccination jabs daily is for when the government rolls out the third phase of the programme, when the general public may get the vaccine.

“If you look at our regional peers, we’re doing better than other countries. Of course, it’s not a race. We’re seeking to do the best for Malaysia, but we’re satisfied with the current rate,” he said.

Khairy also expected the number of registrations for the vaccine to go past five million in the next two weeks, with the dependents feature on the MySejahtera application set to be launched on March 12.

He said he has requested state governments to mobilise their machinery at grassroots levels to raise greater awareness on the vaccine, adding that registrations were still low for now as people were taking a “wait and see” approach.

“But when we saw Dr Mahathir Mohamad getting the vaccine yesterday, we saw an increase in registrations. Maybe senior citizens’ confidence that the vaccine is safe for them was boosted upon seeing Tun get the vaccine,” he said.
