The letter of demand is over Asyraf’s claim that the previous Pakatan Harapan administration had intentionally glorified communists.
“Politicians should be focusing on helping the people and fostering a political culture of service, not finding fault, accusing and slandering others as they like.
“I hope this action makes others aware, regardless of whatever party they are from, that the culture of slander based on race must be stopped immediately, what more if it involves national education,” said Maszlee in a Facebook post.
The Simpang Renggam MP added that he would provide updates if there were any developments in the issue.
Asyraf had recently called on the education ministry to correct some content in Form 4 history textbooks, which he claimed glorified communists as independence fighters.
He claimed this was intentionally done by PH when in government to “sow the seeds” of a “Malaysian Malaysia” ideology.
The education ministry has since clarified the changes in the content of the textbooks, saying they were finalised in April 2018, before PH came to power.
The ministry said the publication of the Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah history textbook was based on the Standard Curriculum and Assessment Document, and that the ministry’s standard operating procedures on textbook publication were updated in 2018.
Yesterday, Maszlee threatened to haul Asyraf to court if he did not retract his claim. He also wanted Asyraf to tender an open apology.
