Ex-speaker now heads lawyers’ disciplinary body

Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof is new chairman of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board which arbitrates complaints against lawyers.

PETALING JAYA:
Former Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof has been appointed chairman of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board, an independent body that arbitrates complaints against lawyers.

Ariff was appointed to the post last Friday, replacing Abdul Raman Saad.

Speaking to FMT, Malaysian Bar president Salim Bashir welcomed Ariff’s appointment.

“Tan Sri Ariff brings along vast and sterling experience of being a former Court of Appeal judge and former Dewan Rakyat speaker.

“We look forward to working with him in ensuring the fast disposal of any pending complaints.”

Salim also thanked Raman for his service and dedication.

Ariff was appointed Dewan Rakyat speaker after the 14th general election in 2018 until he was replaced by former Election Commission chairman Azhar Azizan Harun following the change of government last year.
