Science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the request was fair as they will be returning to schools in March.

“I will ask education minister Radzi Jidin to give us a list of teachers with comorbidities to be included in the first phase,” he told reporters at a press conference after the arrival of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in KLIA.

Khairy said the vaccine for teachers will be subjected to risk assessments.

“We can’t vaccinate all the teachers at once,” he said.

Last week, Khairy told a virtual forum that he had received applications from those working in the aviation, education and religious sectors to be included in the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination.

However, these requests could not be fulfilled as there is insufficient vaccine supply.

To another question on reaching out to undocumented migrant workers, Khairy said he and the prime minister’s health adviser, Dr Jemilah Mahmood, will be meeting international organisations and non-governmental organisations to work together.

“We are aware they have concerns over possible detention if they come forward to be vaccinated.

“We want to get the message out that the government will not arrest them,” he said.
