KOTA KINABALU:
Contraband and controlled items worth RM6.1 million have been seized in separate raids across the state by General Operations Force (GOF) personnel.

Sabah GOF brigade commander Mohd Abduh Ismail said the items comprising illegal cigarettes, alcohol and diesel were confiscated in the districts of Tawau, Lahad Datu and Penampang from Feb 8 to Wednesday.

He said 12 people, aged between 17 and 53, including four foreigners, were arrested in connection with the seizure of illicit items.

Police seized two lorry tankers containing 16,900 litres of diesel in the first raid at a storehouse in Tawau.

“We believe the storehouse was used to sell subsidised diesel,” he said, when contacted.

Abduh said in another operation, also in Tawau, police found a lorry filled with illegal cigarettes.

He added that contraband cigarettes and alcohol were also seized in raids at Lahad Datu and Penampang on Wednesday.
