PETALING JAYA:
Two Covid-19 patients quarantined at the MAEPS centre in Serdang near here have been arrested by police for allegedly stealing handphones belonging to other patients.

Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusoff said the two men were arrested after medical officers reported a ruckus among patients in the quarantine hall at around 10.30pm yesterday.

The health workers called police on duty there to help manage the situation.

Some handphones had gone missing and the other patients held down the two men, one aged 24 and the other in his 40s, who were suspected of stealing them.

“Health officers also found four handphones that were suspected (to have been) stolen,” he told FMT today, adding that the two suspects had been moved to another hall for safety reasons.

Wan Kamarul said the matter would be investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for committing theft in a building, which carries a punishment of a maximum of 10 years in jail and a fine.

He added that the 24-year-old man was due to be discharged tomorrow while the other suspect was supposed to be discharged today.
