
Both appointments will take effect from March 1.
A 36-year veteran of TNB, Baharin is currently TNB’s chief distribution network officer, overseeing the largest business division at the utility giant.
Congratulating Baharin on his appointment, TNB chairman Mahdzir Khalid said he was confident Baharin will help TNB achieve its goal of being the leading provider of sustainable energy solutions in Malaysia and internationally.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience and is focused on delivering TNB’s ambitious growth agenda,” Mahdzir said in a statement by TNB.
“Despite the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order, TNB has remained operationally stable and recorded respectable financial performances with good returns to its valued shareholders.
“The board of directors and I look forward to seeing the organisation progress on this steady track under Datuk Baharin’s leadership.”
Amir, who had served as TNB’s president and CEO since April 2019, replaces Tunku Alizakri Raja Muhammad Alias, who had helmed the retirement fund since August 2018.
Thanking Amir for his service, Mahdzir said the former had improved efficiency, transparency and corporate governance throughout his tenure.
“We wish him every success as he continues to serve the nation in his new role.”
