According to a statement from the zoo, officials from the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei attended a talk by zookeepers yesterday with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation on wildlife conservation.
It also announced that a Malayan tapir at its zoo had become pregnant and was expected to give birth between July and August this year.
The zoo has worked with Zoo Negara, Zoo Melaka and Zoo Taiping on zookeeper training and animal exchanges over the last 15 years.
It previously cooperated with Malaysian conservation groups in efforts to preserve the endangered Borneo elephant. Only 2,000 of these pygmy elephants are left in the wild.
