KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have warned recreational cyclists to adhere to movement control restrictions and not to group together in areas of central Kuala Lumpur.

Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the lack of discipline could lead to compound fines being imposed.

He said groups of cyclists had been seen around Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Merbok.

Zainal said rules under the movement control order allowed cycling activities to be conducted alone and within a 10km radius of the cyclist’s residence.

“Cycling in groups is not permitted although cyclists leave their homes alone,” he said in a statement today.

He added so far no compounds have been issued to cyclists who violated SOPs. “We are monitoring SOP violations and if they continue to occur, compound fines will be issued,” he said.
