Northern states hit by internet disruption

TM says three main fibre optic lines were cut at separate locations in Perak - two due to excavation work, the third by vandals - thus affecting its Unifi service.

Unifi customers in Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis have been affected by the internet disruption.
GEORGE TOWN:
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today announced internet service disruptions in all four northern states – Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis – due to three major cable cuts that are believed to have occurred on Wednesday evening.

In response to queries by FMT, TM said two of the cable cuts were caused by excavation work carried out by utility companies, while the third cut was believed to have been caused by vandals.

It said technical teams are on-site to restore the cables and due to the complexity of the reconnection of these cables, restoration “will take some time”.

“As an immediate measure, we are rerouting the traffic to ensure our customers experience minimal degradation to their service.

“Be rest assured that our technical team is working around the clock to get everything back to normal as quickly as we can,” TM said.

However, the company did not give any indication as to when service was expected to be fully restored.

FMT has learnt from technical teams on-site that the cuts took place between Pantai Remis and Sitiawan in Perak, as well as between Tanjung Malim and Tapah.
