PETALING JAYA:
The Datuk involved in the assault of a young couple at a hotpot restaurant will be charged in the Petaling Jaya court at 9am tomorrow, say police.

In a statement, the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat said the police have submitted their investigation papers along with the proposed charges to the deputy public prosecutor.

The man and his friend, who was also involved in the assault, will be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury, along with Section 290 for causing a public nuisance and Section 427 for committing mischief.

The incident they will be charged for had allegedly occurred in Tropicana Avenue last Tuesday, hours before the movement control order came into force, and sparked fury among Malaysians after two video clips went viral.

In the video, a man can be seen slapping the youth before one of them hit the victim’s girlfriend.

Both men surrendered at the Mutiara Damansara police station last Thursday and police obtained a remand order the next day to hold them until Saturday.
