Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said Friday prayers will be replaced with the Zohor prayer at home.

However, he said mosques and suraus permitted to hold Friday and obligatory prayers are allowed to do so, but only five mosque or surau officials are allowed at one single time.

Shahzihan said solemnisation of marriages will be conducted through videoconferencing only for couples who have obtained permission to get married and the date of the marriage set by the district Islamic religious office (PAID) or the mosques concerned.

“The marriage solemnisation through videoconferencing will be conducted by the registrar (of marriages) at PAID, while the bride and groom, wali (guardian) and two witnesses are at home.

“The district religious administrative officer will set the marriage solemnisation ceremony based on the appointment that has been arranged,” he said in a statement today.

Shahzihan said JAIS’ main services, especially involving marriage, divorce and “rujuk” (reconciliation), will be conducted online, and the department has also set up 10 telephone line counters for the public to call for consultation and to make appointments.
